Shadows-Chapter 1-Light

Today was a unusually nice day. The sun was out for a few moments before the shadows covered it up again. You could here hoof steps and wheels turning outside, signs that today was another vicious workday for the once happy ponys of the crystal kingdom. I sighed as i peered out the window, staring at him down there. "Him" Was my father, King Sombra. I hated being trapped up here in this blackened castle, but Sombra insisted. I plopped onto my bed, my shadowy hair flowing in every direction. Stupid bedhead hair. I grabbed my brush, straitening out the pieces that had gone rouge, tough the rest of my hair flowed. I then heard a knock on the door. I almost fell off my bed, for i rarely got visitors. No one bothered to talk to me. They were all afraid. I jumped of my bed and headed towards the door using my magic to pull it open. There stood the only pony who would talk to me. The only pony who isn't depressed by Sombras return. "Hey, Diamond" The pegasus beamed. "Whats up Topaz?" I said with a smile as i let her in to my bedroom, the only room in the whole castle that wasn't black. Instead, it was blue. It was one of the larges rooms,too, Meaning i had enough space for at least three beds. I only had two, though. One for me and One for Topaz. Topaz is allowed to stay with me because of her bravery and her kin. She is the daughter of a close friend of Sombras a long time ago. I believe her name was Rainbow Crash or something like that. Anyways, i was happy to see her. She treated me like a normal pony, not a monster. i flopped back onto my bed, a squish of a beanbag sounding. "So, whatcha wanna do today?" She asked me. I thought. I wanted to do something we haven't done in a long time or ever. But, there wasn't much that we haven't done. Then it hit me. It was dangerous, daring, and stupid. It was perfect. "Leave the Castle" I spoke as i lifted my head to peer at the pony below me and wait fr her answer. "Are you crazy?!" She screamed at me well turning to face me. "Probably" i answered with a shrug and a smile. "But, its not like we'll get killed. You and me have always been in this castle. You and me were born in this castle" Topaz interupted me. "And our mothers died Outside the castle." I sighed and nodded, still not ignoring the idea of leaving the castle. "I know Topaz but....that was Discords falt!. Rainbow and Twilight were enemies of Discord, and he wanted his revenge. He got it And my father got his. Discord is gone know, and my father won't hurt you or me. Your like his second daughter. He would trade his life in fr our survival, even if he seems bad. Now please, will you go outside with me?" She took a deep breath, small tears rippling down both of our faces slowly. We didn't like talking about our mothers. We were born on the same day, and our mothers both wen't outside the next day to get air. They had discovered discord and not either of our fathers. Twilight, My Mother, Rainbow, And Topaz's father, Were all killed before my father could save his close friends. He was a softie when it came to family. I smiled with a sniffle and stood up, offering my hoof the other sobbing pony. She smiled up at me and accepted the offer, walking with me to my door  and all the way down to the Front castle door, which was protected by a code on each side. I whispered it into the com and the door opened, revealing the torn down, destructed town that once was the crystal empire. I noticed my father flying off, probably either checking his other conquered towns or obtaining new towns to add to his empire. He stopped and turned around, making sure no pony had stopped their duty. He didn't seem to notice me and Topaz, but i was alright with that. He flew off, and i let out a sigh of relief. Yeah, i didn't like what my father did. And yeah, i wanted to escape sometimes, but i didn't have a choice and i knew it. It would make my life worse. It would be like, getting run over by a hoard of rapid monkeys, only worse. "Diamond" Topaz spoke slowly, worry etched in her voice. She pointed with one shaking hoof to a small bundle coughing and shaking in the corner of the castle wall. Curled up against the wall was a young foal who looked an awfully lot like me.She was dark gray with a black curly black mane and tail. she had Cyan eyes, which was one of the few differences between us. She was clearly very sick, and i couldn't help myself. I ran over and gently picked her up. She took one look at me and started to squirm and scream, but i kept my grip, slowly stroking her mane. She stopped squealing after awhile and looked up at me with bright shining eyes. I smiled. "Isn't she cute, Topaz?" I asked as i cradled the young filly. Topaz nodded.
